On Wednesday 18 August, 2010, the evening performance of WICKED will be interpreted by Auslan specialists for access by people who are deaf sign language users. Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is the first or preferred language of the Australian Deaf community, and has approximately 6,500 users in Australia. It is a visual-spatial language with its own rich grammatical structure which is very different from English.

On Tuesday WICKED cast and company members lunched with journalists from Queensland to tell them about WICKED and its Brisbane season. The luncheon was held at the beautiful Sofitel Brisbane Central in a green themed room. Guests were treated to a sensational two course meal with green macaroons to finish off!

On Monday night, WICKED cast members Lucy Durack, Elisa Colla and James Smith joined a packed crowd at the NSW Swifts v MAGIC netball match at the Sydney Olympic Park Centre. At the quarter time break, Lucy and Elisa participated in ANZ’s shoot out competition. The girls had to see how many goals they could score in sixty seconds, and James was given the responsibility as the official time keeper.

On Monday evening, May 17, the cast, crew and orchestra of the blockbuster musical WICKED performed a one off charity performance of Stephen Sondheim’s INTO THE WOODS to raise money for the ANZ Trustees Foundation: ANZ Rob Guest Endowment. The sold out performance hosted by Bert Newton, and featuring the WICKED cast including Lucy Durack, Rob Mills, Maggie Kirkpatrick, Zoe Gertz and James Smith, proved an enormous success both artistically and financially.

On Sunday we announced that Pippa Grandison is finishing her contract with WICKED nearing the end of this month. Today we would like to extend a warm welcome to a not so unfamiliar face to WICKED – the very talented Patrice Tipoki. Patrice will be sharing the role of Elphaba with Jemma Rix from 25 May onwards.
Patrice started as the Elphaba standby in Melbourne and after some time off to have a baby has returned to the stage. Some of you will have already seen Patrice grace the stage over the last weeks. Welcome back Patrice!

Today it was announced that Rob Mills, who has played the role of Fiyero since the opening of WICKED in Melbourne two years ago, is moving on. Mills’ last performance will be on Sunday 6 June. We wish Rob all the best for the future and he will be greatly missed by all the cast and crew of WICKED.

Our charming prince, Rob Mills delighted the crowd of over 20,000 at Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday 3 April, by singing the National Anthem prior to the AAMI Golden Slipper race.
Rob was also a Myer Fashions on the Field judge alongside the beautiful Sydney Turf Club racing ambassador Rachel Finch, Packed to the Rafter's Hugh Sheridan, and face of Myer and partner of Danni Minogue, Chris Smith.

On Wednesday 24 March WICKED opened its doors to supporters of the McGrath Foundation for a special charity performance. The evening was a huge success with a total of $10,000 raised for the McGrath Foundation.

WICKED cast members will take part in the annual HATS OFF! Concert tonight, the theme of which is THE HISTORY OF SHOWSTOPPERS. This is the 12th year of Hats Off! and it features a star studded line-up of Australian musical theatre, comedy, dance and cabaret performers, all donating their time and talent to help raise much-needed funds for ACON and BGF. This year’s concert is hosted again by the hysterical Jan Van de Stool, with Garry Scale attempting to lend some sanity to the proceedings.

The only disappointing aspect was when the WICKED ball got swept out to sea at Bondi Beach. It’s probably reached New Zealand by now!

WICKED has officially announced that Elisa Colla will be making her professional debut in the role of Nessarose, sister of Elphaba – welcome Elisa! Elisa will replace Penny McNamee, who is leaving the show. Penny’s last performance will be on Friday 12 March. For the third time in just six weeks, the Broadway smash WICKED has grossed over $2 million for one week of performances. For the week ending Sunday, November 29, the musical, now in its 7th year, grossed $2,086,135, and for the week ending December 27, the musical surpassed its own record, grossing $2,092,745. For the week ending January 3, 2010, the musical shattered the record once again, making Broadway history by taking in an unprecedented $2,125,740 and setting a new house record at the Gershwin Theatre.

Yesterday, WICKED Australia cast members, swapped their costumes for shovels as they rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty at Taronga Zoo to support WICKED Day. WICKED Day is all about giving back to the community and given the strong themes about how animals interact and are treated in the show, the WICKED cast were more than happy to offer Taronga Zoo some volunteer support.

Last night WICKED celebrated the milestone of 500 performances in Australia. Opening at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in July 2008, the musical played for 13 months in Melbourne where it broke many records. The musical had the longest season ever at The Regent Theatre, took a record of more than $2.3 million in advance bookings in just three hours on February 12, 2008 and on the Monday after it opened, smashed the one‐day box office record for all Melbourne theatres with a $1.5 million ticket sales.

On Sunday 11 October, WICKED waved farewell to one of their much loved ensemble members, Anton Berezin.
Anton played the role of Elphaba's father for the Melbourne season and the opening season in Sydney. He will be missed on and off the stage.

On Saturday 12 September WICKED had its official opening at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre. The night began with celebrities arriving in their most WICKED attire – green frocks and suits abounded. The Capitol Theatre was illuminated with an emerald green glow and the WICKED spot lights could be seen all over Sydney.

On Friday 4 September WICKED held its Final Dress Rehearsal. This was charity performance for Lifehouse at RPA: The Chris O’Brien Cancer Centre at the Capitol Theatre. The performance raised in excess of $90,000 for the charity. Thanks to the Australian News Channel, JC Decaux and Ticketmaster for their generous support and all the cast, crew and Capitol Theatre staff who donated their time for the evening.

On Friday 28 August at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney media were invited to a ‘Meet and Greet’ with the cast and creative team of WICKED.
The ‘Meet and Greet’ began with an introduction from WICKED Australia’s Co-Producer John Frost. The media were then escorted around the Capitol Theatre and given the opportunity to see the thrillifying WICKED set being installed. A new website for the Sydney season of WICKED was launched today following the close of the hugely successful season of the show in Melbourne. The biggest theatre hit of the decade will open at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on September 5.

On Sunday 9 August WICKED closed in Melbourne with an emotional final performance at the Regent Theatre – the Theatre’s longest running theatre season ever. As the performance came to a close the audience raised to their feet in a mass standing ovation to recognise the immense success WICKED has had with its premiere season.

ANZ Trustees established the ANZ Trustees Foundation: ANZ Rob Guest Endowment in 2008, in memory of the late Rob Guest. On Monday 27 July at the 2009 Helpmann Awards® it was announced by Kellie Dickerson, Music Director of WICKED and Roberto Scenna, Managing Director of ANZ Trustees that the theatrical achievements of Rob Guest OBE will be commemorated in an annual competition that will take emerging young performers in musical theatre to Broadway.

We had to bid farewell to our favourite prince, Rob Mills from Dancing with the Stars this week. He and his partner Sriani danced a dynamic and colourful interpretation of the Jive. Although it is sad to see him go it leaves him plenty of time to dance through life on the WICKED stage!

The winner of ANZ's Win a Part in WICKED competition, Henry Brett (17), had the week of his life last week when he got to perform on stage with the cast of WICKED. After a week of costume fittings, media interviews and rehearsals Henry was ready to tread the boards at the Regent Theatre on Friday night.

Last Tuesday, Accor Hotels hosted a dinner for their long serving staff members. WICKED cast members Jemma Rix and Liz Stiles gave a surprise and intimate performance of ‘For Good’ for the guests.

ANZ, the Official Bank of Oz, and WICKED have announced Henry Brett as the lucky winner of ANZ’s Win a Part in WICKED competition.
Henry beat close to 500 other entrants from across Australia and will receive a walk-on role in the Friday 17 July 2009 performance at the Regent Theatre - Congratulations Henry!

The next season of the hit reality tv show Dancing with the Stars started this Sunday 5 July, and this year our very own Rob Mills will take part as a celebrity contestant!

WICKED is the big winner in nominations for this year’s Helpmann Awards. The premier awards in Australian theatre, the Helpmanns will be announced in the Sydney Opera House on July 27. And WICKED will be up for 12 of the 41 awards – including Best Musical.

WICKED celebrated its 1st birthday in Melbourne on the steps of the Regent Theatre on Sunday 21 June. There was an incredible turnout of fans to help us make it a memorable occasion, congratulotions go to the 365 lucky Witches who received a free ticket to the show.

On Monday 25th May, at a sell-out netball game at Hisense Arena, five of the cast of the smash hit musical WICKED played in a celebrity game at half time in the match between the Melbourne Vixens and NSW Swifts.
