MUSICAL PROVIDES WICKED BOOST TO VICTORIA.

Posted: 3 December 2009

On Monday the State Government announced that WICKED has become arguably the most successful musical ever staged in Melbourne with the show creating $126 million in economic activity for Victoria in just over a year.

WICKED is thrilled with the result and we would like to thank some of those organisations who benefitted from WICKED’s long run and joined in the celebrations at the Bistrot D’Orsay:

NEPTOURS COACH LINES - Val Watson

NEPTOURS COACH LINES purchased almost $22K of WICKED tickets throughout the WICKED season – thank you Val.

Melbourne Airport and Skybus

With 180,000 people from interstate and overseas attending WICKED airports and services such as Skybus benefitted.

City Ambassadors (Patrick Quinn & Mary Wilkie)

While the City Ambassadors do not benefit financially as a result of shows like WICKED we invited representatives to come to the Bistrot D’Orsay to publicly acknowledge the great work they do in making this city a friendly destination for tourists.

Fiona Sweetman, Director, Hidden Secrets Tours

Hidden Secrets Tours is a company that uncovers many of Melbourne’s dining and retail experiences for visitors and locals alike. Fiona’s company benefitted as a result of WICKED as did the retail sector as a whole, 82% of visitors to Melbourne for WICKED also indulged in some retail therapy.

Sofitel Melbourne (David Bain)

The Sofitel was WICKED’s hotel partner and we couldn’t have wished for a more supportive partner – thank you.

The direct impact of events such as WICKED on the accommodation sector is one of the most – with interstate visitors to WICKED staying an average of 2.5 nights and international almost 4.

Ken Meer, John Tully and Olivia, Bistrot D’Orsay

And finally representing the food and wine sector were our hosts from the Bistrot D’Orsay.

Of interstate and overseas visitors to WICKED surveyed 85% said that enjoying the food and wine was part of their overall Melbourne experience.
