Perth turns green to welcome WICKED

Perth has gone green to celebrate the arrival of the long-awaited smash-hit Broadway musical WICKED.
A number of Perth buildings have been bathed in emerald green light to welcome the much anticipated award winning Broadway theatre production to Western Australia. These include Carillon City, Parmelia House on St Georges Terrace, Noranda Shopping Village, The Colonnade in Subiaco, the WA State Library, Burswood Entertainment Complex and from 19 June a number of locations in the Town of Victoria Park.
WICKED tells the story of the remarkable odyssey of two unlikely friends who meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED is about how they grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
Currently in its 8th year on Broadway, WICKED's North American and international companies have cumulatively grossed more than $2.2 billion and have been seen by nearly 28 million people worldwide. WICKED is the winner of 35 major awards including the Grammy Award, three Tony Awards and six Helpmann Awards® including Best Musical.
Leading Australian theatre producer John Frost, whose Broadway productions has won two Tony Awards, said he was thrilled to bring WICKED to Perth and add a spash of green to the city. "WICKED is like no other show, the fan base and support for this show worldwide is quite a phenomenon," he said.
Hawaiian CEO Russell Gibbs said Hawaiian was excited to partner with WICKED during its time in Perth. "A number of our buildings, commercial and retail, will be turning green to celebrate WICKED's arrival in Western Australia. At Hawaiian, we are passionate about promoting participation in the Arts, encouraging young people and supporting those in need."
Burswood Chief Operating Officer Andrew Hill said anticipation was building for WICKED, the most exciting show on the theatre circuit. "It is a major achievement to host Broadway's biggest hit and to celebrate Burswood will be 'turning green' for the duration of the season. It will be a unique experience for our guests who will feel the excitement of WICKED from the moment they arrive."
WICKED opens in Perth on 19 June 2011 for a strictly limited seasons.
